The Lupine Team
Hampton High School Greenhouse Team
Updated: Jun 19, 2021
Did you know that Hampton's own High school, HHS, is the first UNESCO school in New Brunswick? Did you know that they are one of the 3 schools IN CANADA to be recognized by the eco-school's program for their environmental work? Their incredible work in sustainability has gained them so much positive attention over the past few years. Not only are we lucky enough to have them set an example and a standard for our town, but we are lucky enough to be joined by them at the market this summer! Students from the HHS Greenhouse team (the greenhouse that the high school students helped build and design) will be proudly selling the plants and produce that they have been working hard to grow! Check out our most recent website post to read more about the incredible work that they've been doing! Read on to learn about their environmental activism and upcoming market presence!
"In 2017, grade 11 math students at Hampton High School had a dream to build a greenhouse! With the
help of local sponsors, this dream became reality, and the construction was completed in 2018! Since
then, students have been starting seeds in the school in the winter and the plants are moved to the
greenhouse as soon as the weather would permit it.
Until this year, most of the plants were sold at our annual plant sale, but with the addition of the Hampton High School food forest and garden last year, we were able to increase the number of plants and our products will be sold by a group of dedicated students on the greenhouse committee at the Lupine Market! Our main products are tomato, pepper and basil plants, but later in the summer, we will be selling tomatoes and peppers! This project is a labour of love and students have learned the importance of growing their own food and the satisfaction of watching things grow!
